Bio:
Halfdan Hauge (1892–1976) was a Norwegian painter and draughtsman from Svolvær who lived on Svinøya throughout his life. Self-taught, he worked as a cooper and shoemaker in his youth. He began painting more seriously after the Second World War and made his debut at the North Norwegian Art Exhibition in 1952. His subjects portray life in old Lofoten, drawing on childhood and youthful memories rendered with bold brushwork and lively colours. His works are held in collections in Bodø, Svolvær and Stockholm, among others.
