Unique lidded bowl in wood from 1999
Description:
Michael Mode (b. 1946 in the USA), unique lidded jar made of various turned woods and with a checkerboard pattern at the top. The work is created using advanced lamination techniques for which Mode is world-renowned.The box is constructed by combining several contrasting domestic and foreign woods. The checkered pattern typically consists of combinations such as maple, holly, wenge or ebony.
Michael Mode's signature style involves flowing geometric patterns and extremely precise surface finishes. His technique, often based on the "bowl from a board" method, involves precise gluing of concentric rings of wood, which are subsequently shaped on a lathe to create the fascinating optical effects.

It was made in 1999.
